The First Shake Down Hike

Until now Cindy and I have been going on day hikes of 4-8 miles with 3/4 full backpacks.  That’s about to change.  Tonight our daughter Charissa arrives and the three of us will go on an overnight hike for Wednesday and Thursday.  We’re both very excited!

The purpose of this hike is to “shake down” the gear for our five month Pacific Crest Trail hike.  In particular we have new backpacks, cook stove, water filtration device and tent to try out.  We have new shoes and Kuhl clothes to wear.  Kuhl sponsored us for our American Discovery Trail hike and they are coming through again.  We loved their clothes the durable and odor resistant clothes the first time around.

Charissa hiked the last four days of the ADT with us.  This shake down hike will be a bit nostalgic as we will retrace our steps of that last day.

I also will be trying out my new iPad and solar charger, while we have a new iPod ready for Cindy.  The purpose of the iPod is for daily doses of therapeutic music.  I’ll bring t.he camera along as well and will share some photos on here.

I’ve changed a page on this blog.  Please note the Hope for Alzheimer’s page and see what you can do to help us spread the hope.

Wish us Happy Trails!
