Day 339 – 4/27/12 – Annapolis

Annapolis to Grasonville; Distance = 16 Miles; People Met = 5

There have been times at this trip when beauty snuck us up unexpectedly.  Today, culture snuck us up.  We knew about the Naval Academy being in Annapolis, but we did not realize how well they preserve the historic downtown section.  Interpretive guides in colonial dress were giving tours around the capitol area.

Boyd gave us directions for navigating through historic downtown Annapolis

I could not resist taking a picture of a mom taking a picture of her little girl near the Naval Academy.  We then went over to chat with Erin, who was out walking daughter Quinn and infant son Reid.

We met with Ky shortly after noon for her to transport us across the Bay Bridge, one of the few areas along the official ADT that can’t be walked.  She then went ahead to meet us at the end of the day in Grasonville.  We thought we would go to Tuckahoe State Park to camp, but Ky persuaded Marc Lacoste of the Best Western Kent Narrows Inn to comp us a room instead.  This prevented the need to be transported back and forth to Grasonville the next day to resume hiking.

Marc’s title was “Host” and he served that role well, getting into a long talk with us about the trip.  This was the third time on this trip that a Best Western comped us a room; consider giving them some business the next time you travel.
