Day 252 – 1/31/12 – Eastern Time Zone

Alton to Wyandotte; Distance = 18.3 Miles; People Met = 6

After a day of being under the weather I slept much better than usual and felt refreshed again.  I thought about the high school presentation the day before.  I hope I can reach out to more high school students when the journey is over.  They are at the right stage to embrace community kindness.

We were back on pavement for the whole day, which increased our opportunities for meeting people.  Tim and Kathy Haines saw us go by their house and they soon drove by to check us out.  They have a stage for musicians and would have liked for me to perform and for us to stay with them.  Alas, they were heading back to their Indianapolis home and we were heading on past Leavenworth.

Kenneth Booth and his dog Boozer came down to check us out as we approached his property.  His parents, both in their nineties, lived in the next house over.  His grandkids had been on mission trips.

Just as we were passing the Outlook Restaurant, Steve Stonemen deliberately drove up in his ATV to meet us.  He was a world traveler with a penchant for running into ADT hikers.  We were the third couple he met doing this.  He also met Deb Syano, the person raising funds for a library in Kenya whom we stayed with in O’Fallon, Illinois on New Years Eve.

After our hiking was done, we got our wifi fix at Stephenson’s General Store in Leavenworth.  The signs around the store revealed proprietors with a sense of humor.  Indeed, the whole day had its humorous moments as some of my other photos reveal.
