Day 362 – 5/20/12 – Wrong Turn

Fahnestock SP to Morgan Stewart Shelter; Distance = 15 Miles; People Met = 12

This was the second day in a row I felt lethargic.  Fortunately, our daughter Charissa would be joining us in the evening for the remainder of the hike home.

As we were taking a break by the side of the road.  Bob and his grandson Courtney were on their way fishing when they turned around just to see if we were OK.  Bob had helped out a pair of AT thru-hikers once before, but we assured him we were OK.

Shortly after that I made a wrong turn which led through the neighborhood of Marc and Kim Palmer.  They were lounging on their porch after an evening of celebrating Kim’s 50th and they hailed us.  That led to us joining them on their porch for a nice chat, along with Gatorade and cookies, a wrong turn turned right.

A blurry Marc and Kim (because of my photography, not her 50th celebration)

Not long after we were also hailed by Ellen and Ivan, who refreshed us with orange juice.  They invited us to lounge in their beautiful yard for awhile as well, but at that point we were eager to get at the meeting place for Charissa.

In the evening we stayed at Morgan Stewart Shelter on the AT.  We met section hikers Scott, Jim and “Take Care” their.  Jim had hiked the AT previously and was visiting Scott on his section hike.  The evening was well spent chatting with both Jim and Scott, who shared some tales of kindness.  I encouraged them to share them on the blog as well and Scott has done just that with a comment.  I’ll turn that into a main entry once I’m finished posting about Day 366.  Not much longer to go!
