Day 316 – 4/4/12 – Dolly Sods

Canaan Valley SP to Red Creek CS; Distance = 11.2 Miles; People Met = 6

“The young men and women serving you today are part of a program called Applewood Transitions.  It is a program for emerging young adults to learn how to become successful independent members of our community.”

That introduction was on the back of our menu at the Breakfast Nook near Canaan Valley SP.  We turned the tables and treated Gwen to breakfast, though she left the tip.  I suspect she left a generous one because she was as impressed as I at this program that helps young adults with previous dependency troubles become independent through work and mentoring.  Camille our waitress and Colleen our cook are both in the program.  We chatted with mentors Keith Bishop and Tammy Robbins as well (see photos below).  Gwen probably will pursue some type of relationship with this program for her university, Fairmont State.

We traversed the Dolly Sods Wilderness today, our last bit of wilderness on our way to Cape Henlopen, Delaware.  The occasion seemed to warrant more than just a written report.
