Day 287 – 3/6/12 – Scholarship Fund

Waverly to Londonderry; Distance = 17 Miles; People Met = 3

At the end of the day we stayed at a United Methodist Church outside of Londonderry, thanks to our contact Sharon.  In addition to working hard to get approval for us to stay at her church she stopped by to treat us to subs at the nearby store for supper.

We learned of a local young man in the area, former class president and natural leader, who lost his life while serving in the military.  The community rallied, and still does over the past seven years, to contribute to a scholarship in his name.  At this point the fund awards seven $1,000 scholarships in a year.  A double dose of kindness if you will, a kind gesture towards the family’s loss and a kind boost for young people at a time when college costs are escalating.

      Greetings Bart,
Many thanks for your kind offer, but we are headed in the opposite direction. We left Cincinnati around February 20. We are now in Logan, headed for Parkersburg.
