Day 057 – 7/20/11 Wah Wah Valley to Pass Road

Distance = 28 Miles; People Met = 1

Most of the day featured no wind; I did not know that was possible.  Whereas yesterday I thought 100 degrees was in the eighties, today felt in the nineties.  Clearly, crosswinds are preferable to either no wind or headwind, though I’d like to see what a sustained tailwind feels like in the desert.  I thought we might get more of that going west to east on the ADT.

OK, so the remainder of this post is going to come across as a promo, but we were met with an extraordinary bit of good fortune.  Ky found out that Penny’s Diner in Milford had wifi access, so she engaged the on duty manager, Lisa, in conversation.  She mentioned how she would really love to sleep indoors some day.  Turns out, Penny’s Diner is the restaurant for the neighboring Oak Tree Inn, a motel chain that survives competition with the big boys through a special arrangement with the railroad.  They are located in smaller, western railroad towns.  Lisa cleared it with her boss to comp us a room.

Lisa and Her Crew

We were able to spend the night in an air-conditioned room (though Cindy turned it off) and take showers before our flight home from Salt Lake City for a family wedding.  The room was quite nice and clean.  Unfortunately, we discovered about the fitness room and hot tub only when we were nearly ready to check out.

Our Room

We ate at Penny’s Diner for supper, and the comp room came with three breakfast vouchers as well.  The diner as a fifties motif and the food was excellent.  So here is a big shout out of thanks to Lisa and the Oak Tree Inn!
