The Kindness of Resurrection and Deven

This is a great story I came across today.  A couple who met in a homeless shelter were able to pick their lives back up.  The reception for their wedding was bringing food to homeless people.  Read up!

Academic Kindness

Not exactly a catch title, but this is about a site that features ongoing reports of academic kindness.  On the one hand I was surprised by someone feeling the need to create such a site, unawares that academics might have a reputation for being unkind.  On the other hand I can see where academics can belong to their work over belonging to others.  It’s good to have a site that can provide testimony otherwise.

Here is the Tumblr site.  I’m going to make this available as one of my kindness links as well.

Hope and Kindness

While proofreading To Dance in the Rain I was struck by the kindness emanating from the story.  The author now calls for others to share their stories of kindness as well.  I’m providing her site in my kindness links to stay tuned.

Kindness after Trauma

Recently I had the good fortune of helping a budding author by proofreading her manuscript, titled To Dance in the Rain, by Clare Keating.  As the subtitle states, this is “A Mother’s and Daughter’s Journey of Hope and Healing.”  They succeed on that journey with the help of kindness and community.  My “price” for proofreading, besides a signed copy when the book comes out, is the privilege to post excerpts from this inspiring story on my web site about kindness, community and humanity.  I sense a perfect fit!

Yesterday Clare Keating launched her book’s web site; please check it out.  The book will be available in a few weeks.

The Kindness of Ted

The American Discovery Trail have state coordinators that overlook their section of trail, lobbying to get things done for the ADT within their states, publicizing the value of the ADT and lending a helping hand to those hiking the trail.  Some are more engaged than others.

Ted Oxborrow was a relatively new state coordinator for Nevada, but he already was a whirlwind of activity. He had been in contact with us through Nevada to alert us to another ADT hiker ahead of us, Barrett Jordan.  He were supposed to meet him in Ely, Nevada in the eastern part of the state.  We finally met Barrett instead, where our journeys merged together for awhile.

We missed Ted in Ely; instead, we met him by coincidence our first night out from the town, camped at Cave Lake Campground.  I was playing guitar in our campground when this energetic guy came rushing down from the neighboring campground, saying on the run: “I just had to tell you how beautiful you play ….. Barrett!  How are you?”  Barrett was camped with us and when Ted spotted the ADT hiker he already met he cut off his sentence and immediately went over to him to chat.

Ted was supporting a former ADT hiker, Brian Stark, the first to run the ADT and was now running across the Nevada portion to raise money for Nevada parks and trail.  When I say supporting, Ted and his son was doing everything for Brian, meeting him with supplies and even marking the trail ahead of time for him where it was hard to follow.

The kindness of coordinators like Ted make a huge difference in the trail experience for ADT hikers.
